A read-aloud reader that keeps up with how you actually read
Select text or open a page, press play, and listen. That is the whole thing.
Natural voices, on your device
The built-in read-aloud voices run in your browser, so your reading stays on your machine. No account, no upload.
Reads in your language
Translate any page and listen in your language — not just the one it was written in.
More than articles
PDFs, Google Docs, Word files, Kindle books, email. If you can read it in Chrome, you can listen to it.
No sign-up, no surprise billing
Free to install and use. No trial that quietly turns into a charge, no card on file to cancel later.
Follow along as it reads
The current sentence is highlighted while it plays, so you can read and listen at the same time.
Bring your own AI voice
Want studio-grade voices? Add your own voice-API key. Optional — the free voices work out of the box.
A free alternative to Speechify and NaturalReader
If you came here tired of paywalls and trials that ask for a card up front, this is the plain version: install it, press play, listen. No word limits on the built-in voices, no account.
Questions people ask
Is Read It To Me free?
Yes. Reading web pages, PDFs, docs and email aloud is free, with no account and no time limit. You can add your own AI-voice API key if you want premium voices — that part is optional.
Can it read PDFs aloud?
Yes. Open a PDF in Chrome, press play, and Read It To Me reads it aloud. It also reads articles, Google Docs, Word files, Kindle books and email.
Do I need to sign up or enter a card?
No. There is no sign-up, no credit card and no trial that turns into a charge. Install it and press play.
Is it private?
You can pick a voice that runs on your device — those are marked in the voice list, and then the text never leaves your computer. The Google voices are spoken on Google servers, the way browser speech normally works.
